Hi - I need to rehome my 5 brown egg laying ladies. They’re approximately 2 years old. I just don’t have time for them any more. My problem is that they have been exposed to Merck’s disease. They are vaccinated and are fine. The eggs are fine to eat. However, since the Merek’s vaccine is “incomplete,” they may be contagious for the disease. So, I am looking for a home for them with only vaccinated chickens (farm and fleet, tractor supply, etc. chicks aren’t), who will not be breeding, and who’s familiar with Marek’s disease and control. I don’t want to devastate anyone’s flock.

My hens are nice little ladies, who love treats. They don’t love being picked up, but do get excited to see us and come running.

The story - about 4 years ago, we had a rooster and decided to let broody Betty hatch her eggs. The chicks were fine until about 8 weeks when each successively started showing symptoms of Merek’s and died or had to be euthanized. We did not get a necropsy done, so I’m basing this on symptoms. Only one of these hens is original to that group. (We had a predator problem.)

I know it’s a long shot to find a home for them, but if you’re interested, please contact me.
