Free Chick Chat

I have not shown you pictures of my chickens yet! I am going to!

This is Charlotte. Right now she is broody (that is why I was wondering about the hatching eggs thing).

This is Lavender (Lavi)

And Merlin! He is my baby!

The coop before we added on the run

My husband really wants a cochin, I wasn't sold on the idea but I did tell him that a cochin bantam might be possible. Do you enjoy yours? Personality wise, mostly, I mean.
Cochins of all sized (bantam or not) are SUPER SWEET! I had a bantam hen mixed with my regular flock and she was super snuggly and would perch on my shoulder while I handed out the morning treats. I miss her....

Aww! and they are super fluffy and that is always fun!

Have any of you ever hatched out eggs? Like with broody hens? I am thinking about trying. I am convincing one of my chicken friends that if I get a boy she will want it :)
My broody cochin bantam was the only one to hatch eggs. She hatched all the other hens' eggs, even though they wanted to hatch theirs!

I have heard that they are one of the best broody breeds... I can see that is true after one of my girls has been broody for longer with me then not broody. I am trying to brake her broody by putting her outside a lot and she does not have any eggs.
I am still convening everyone that I need chicks!

What does broody mean
When they want to hatch eggs. They Are in the nest almost all the time lay eggs for about a week and then stop laying eggs and sit on them. The get really fluffy and are sometimes not to nice.
The chickens you have are not very broody breeds so it would be harder for them to become broody. Cochins are VERY broody breeds however.
