Free chick from McMurray

I think it depends on the breed and how often they are socialized. If they don't have a lot of contact with people, it stands to reason they could become agressive towards people. If he is the only rooster you ordered, you shouldn't have a problem with him being too harsh with them. It is only a theory based off my experiences with the 9 roosters I've had.

Regardless, I bet you will have tons of fun. I'm debating on ordering from MyPetChicken this year, but it depends on the people who are ordering with me.

I ordered chickens from McMurray last spring and my free exotic chick was an Egyptian Fayoumi (rooster of course). He has the most obnoxious crow but he's friendly (not in the sit on your lap way but in the avoids you at all costs way).

It's a shame because if nobody takes it off my hands it is headed towards the freezer when it gets to full size, I don't need another Roo.

Aww maybe advertise and there's a site called rare breed swap on Facebook surely someone will take him. I know from ready the free xtra chick is usually a roo :jumpy

This was my thought since I already had 2 roo's however the fayoumi is constantly flying out of the run and escaping so he doesn't spend much time with everyone else anyway. He's also a bit of a wuss and doesn't pick fights with the other 2 roo's so it's working out fine :)

When the "exotic" chick comes, is there something telling you what he is? Or do you just have to figure it out? My first order from McMurray (or anywhere for that matter) will be here in early Feb. I have 4 hens and a rooster that I got locally a couple of years ago.

Yes, from what i can tell from my research they just pick an overhatched exotic breed, seems like 95% of the time its a rooster lol. McMurray has pics of a baby chick of all the breeds, i think its so you can match them up lol.

They only past a copy of your order to the underside of the lid and it reads exactly what you ordered and they state "1 rare chick." It took me a couple of months to be sure what he was because EE's come in so many colors. The only reason I knew what he was (though I was still hoping he was a she) was because some one had a pullet that was the exact same color.

I liked him so much, I kept him and plan on buying a few pullets for him. I also ordered three Columbian Wyandotte hens. One was a roo I named Angel. Then I ordered two Golden Laced Polish hens. One is a roo I named Labelle (he has his own fan club), and then the one roo I actually ordered, Domino the Mottled Houdan. Right now I have 4 roos to 5 hens. But I couldn't get rid of them, so I'm buying more hens to accommodate them. :) Living in the country sure has its advantages. The only one I may have to sell (or stick in the freezer) is my Wyandotte roo if he doesn't straighten up. He's a little too rough with my hens, fights and picks on Labelle and Domino, and chases my 5 y/o son. They are only about 7 months old, so he has some time to learn some manners. Only time will tell.
