FREE chicken coop plan (nice one too) on the Purina Mills Website

I used a roofing panel I got at Lowes. It's a corrugated cellulose fiber/asphalt roof panel. I built my coop 4 x 6 and it took two panels at about 20 dollars a panel. A box of the matching nails that has the little rubber washer is 10 dollars. It looks really good. I am really happy with it. I didn't make the skylight, I just added windows in the front and back. Here is the back view of the coop. I decided to take the panels on out over the run. At the time I took the picture, I needed to add one more panel. But it just took just 2 to cover the coop.

Thank you so much for posting that! I think we need to use that. I hope we can find it. We need to fill in the skylight and just add windows. We would do the same and cover the run. Did you need to add end pieces like you need with the corrugated PVC panels? Anyone have suggestions on windows for this coop? I see you have on that doesn't close, does rain come in? I have heavy predators too.

You are welcome! I am a newbie, but like to help when I can. The rain does not come in. I made the roof frame, just a tiny bit under the exact dimensions of the two panels, so the roof panels hang over just a tiny bit. The actual roof frame overhangs the coop a good bit in the front and the back, so no rain come in. Just remember they have to overlap a little where the two panels meet. I did not add any end pieces. Another tidbit, you may already know this, but you put the nail on the upper curve of the corrugated panel and not in the channel. You will get leaks if you do that. Just be careful to stop hammering when the rubber washer fits snugly to the surface. If you have a Lowes near you, they keep about 4 colors in stock. Mine had red, Grey, black, and I think green. Other colors can be ordered.
I used 2 things on the window. I used basic window screening (to keep bugs out) and on top of that I used 1/2 inch hardware cloth over both windows. I did the same for the open vent area under the roof. I was hoping to cut down on flies and mosquitoes and keep preditors out.

What has everyone done for roof on this? We expanded to 4x6 and this is getting expensive!! We are up to $300 and no roofing material yet. DH said will be $100 for shingles just for coop, and we have the run to do too, so was wondering if there is a cheaper way? He was going to do the corrugated PVC called palruf but I'm not sure about it. It seems so flimsy but maybe its fine i dont know. He already cut out sunroof on plans but could fill it in. I don't know how anyone built this as cheaply as some said!!

I managed to get some shingles from a neighbor. I wasn't convinced by the corregated example in the build plans.

Thanks jobouss!! I already bought it!! Went out this morning! Our lowes only had two colors, tan and red. I love the red, but I went with the tan because we are trying not to attract attention to our coop from nosy neighbors lol. I will try to put up some pics of what we have so far. I know my husband didn't have the roofing material overhang more than one inch on the frame, but the frame over hangs the coop walls by quite a bit. Next we will be doing the sides and doors, windows, nesting boxes and pop door. I appreciate your help and pictures so much!!!

That looks great so far! I put my nest boxes in the back, but I see yours is backed up to a fence.Do you have room to walk back there? I put the cleaning access door on the right side (as you are facing the coop) and the pop door on the left. I put the roasting bars in the front and you can see in my photo the little access door to the poop tray. The little skinny door folds down and I can pull out the tray and scoop it with a kitty litter scoop. I have sand in the tray. I have 6 full size birds in mine. but it could hold 2 or 3 more or maybe more, I think. Can't wait to see it finished.
