Free free range chicks

Talk to your neighbor, see what they think. If they're concerned your going to hatch the eggs then they can keep their hen home. Do they expect you to collect the eggs for them? Probably not. They may not even be aware she's laying them in your yard, unless you've already told them. Are they aware she's coming to your yard?
I personally don't like my neighbors in my yard, due to the liability issue. So how would they collect the eggs if they can't come into my yard.
In this state, if your neighbor has an apple tree and the apples fall on your side of the property line they're yours. So talk to your neighbor, if they're concerned they have the choice to keep their chickens in their own yard.

So much depends on your relationship with the neighbor.

I think i would be likely to call or go over and say, "hey neighbor, i just thought you should know that you might be short some eggs 'cause they're showing up in my yard." and see what he or she says in response.

That much is neighborly.

And if your neighbor is equally neighborly, he or she should respond by saying, "oh my gosh. i was wondering about that! that Henrietta has been missing a lot lately. will her eggs pay her rent? i'll letcha have 'em. can you show me where she's been laying?"

And then y'all are symbiotic, and everyone is happy....in a neighborly friendly world.

That's my opinion, which may or may not be gospel.

I agree with Penturner.
I would tell the neighbor about it and maybe offer to buy the eggs that are on your property. The neighbor will probably refuse payment and let you keep them in exchange for feeding the hen while she hatches the eggs.

Some great points. But I'm afraid it's a moot point now. I checked the eggs and none showed signs of growth. She really fussed at me when she was disturbed but I look at it this way. If she is really broody she will lay again. This time the weather will be nicer. I will also look for the neighbor and try to make contact. We moved in this house about four weeks ago and haven't had a chance to meet them. As for them missing one of their girl, I doubt it. The must have 200 birds back there. Looks like there may be about 30 or so free ranging. I'll keep y'all posted how things go.

MAYBE.....

With THAT MANY "free-Range" chickens "roaming around".........

Ya orta "fire-up" the Ole B-B-Q Smoker !!!

OR perhaps...go ahead and try to get to know the neighbor better........and SHARE the "smoked chicken" .

Sorry 'bout that...it's Dinner Time and I'm Hungry !!!
