So the gentleman that gave me my hens told me he was getting rid of one of his coops. It needs some work but has great potential. I went and picked it up today. And got it situated where I want it. It needs some new wood, and I need to redo the front and figure out where to put the pop door and nest boxes. Trying to get as much done as fast as I can. I waited until my parents went out of town, they told me no chickens, then no more chickens....

So I figure it is easier to ask forgivness than permission. Now I need your help for how to "remodel"
It is approx. 4' x 7' 11" inside, but I could be off a little it was getting dark and I'm exausted.

Old access door, his little girl would crawl through this to get the chicken and eggs.

What an awesome find. You could put some siding plywood (t-111) on it, which would spiff it up pretty quick. As for the boxes, I can't speak too much from experience. My guess is the back wall. Enjoy your new project

Great deal!!! How many chickens will be living there? I agree that some T1-11 would spruce it up really quickly on the outside. I'd cut out some ventilation windows up high (covered in wire), add an access door where the chicken wire is now (unless you're in an area with year round warm weather), change up the roosts to have one or two go along the 4 ft. stretch on the left side rather than long ways (because the whole length is getting pooped along rather than one end)... Ohhhh, I'll just come over...lol...I love projects like that!!!

I tore the front panel off today and the reason it is bowed it there is a lot of poo in there. I am going to reframe the whole front to allow for a window and the pop door. I picked up some paint from ReStore and am doing it a pretty blue with a maroon trim. Hope to have at least some done today. Well off to work work work only have a day left before they return.

Work quickly Rubyrogue... This is surely your path to more chicks. Worse comes to worse, purchase two bags of marshmallows, some hershey bars and some grahm crackers.

So I figure it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

DH says that all the time!!!

I think you found a great little coop there! A paint job will really do wonders.
Do check out the underside, though. If it sagged from all the poop in there, it probably does need some extra bracing to bring it back up to where it needs to be. A scrap piece of vinyl flooring will make it easier for you to clean out, too.

I'd have to look at the pics again to give ideas about where to put roosts and nestbox. Where you are and the weather will make a difference as to where you need to put them, also which direction this coop will be facing will be a factor.

Anyway...
