Free is Free, now for ideas to revamp!UPDATE#16:WOW Totally Different

I started painting today. One of my cans was a tan instead of the maroon I thought it was so the trim became blue and the panels will be tan. Looking at the floor the front brace is broken and was warped, all the other braces are good, but I will add some center support. The coop faces east. The run will also be on the eastern side. I thought maybe I would put the nestboxes where the old access door was. Just frame it up? After I tore all the stuff off the front I crawled in and mucked it out to survey the damage. I will need a new floor plus the braces. Found a wasp nest, luckly no adults just alien looking larvae. Still trying to figure out how to do the front. I will need a door for cleaning, plus pop door and would like a window.
On another note, I talked to my dad today and asked about getting some meaties. "NO MORE CHICKENS" me "Why, wouldnt it be nice to have some fresh fryers?" him "NO MORE CHICKENS" me "but the guy I got my hens form will give me a coop for FREE, and I am having trouble keeping up with egg demand" him " NO MORE CHICKENS" me " can I please get just 10 more? Then I will stop PROMISE" him "NO MORE CHICKENS" me " PLEASE just 10 more and I will stop" him " how are you going to get the coop to the house?" me " In the truck" him " It won't fit" me "yea it will its not that big" him " You better make everything look good, I don't want my field looking like a trash heap" me " I will, I have been working on cleaning everything up all weekend"

Ive got a lot to do before 8pm tomorrow and I have class and work too.

Cant wait to see it!! I had to laugh, you knew you had him at--how you gonna get it home--didn't you lol I've had that conversation many times with my parents and now with my 16yro

So here is how much I have gotten done so far. It is going kinda slow since I have no help and am still mastering the measure twice cut once rule.

This is where I will have to stop for the day. The battery died on the drill and I have to get everything looking spiffy before my parents come home. The floor was completely rotted. I replaced all perimeter braces and will add center braces. Ive decided to frame out where the old access door was. That panel is still in pretty good shape so I will just add my framing to the inside and cut out what I don't need.
Keep the suggestions coming!!!

I see you have a hole cut in the left side looking at the front, too. Did you decide to put the nest box there, or will it become something else?
What about a ventilation strip on the back side near the top with a hinged door to close for winter or bad weather? Or maybe on each side for cross ventilation?

Did you decide on whether you were going to fully enclose it, or have wire in the front like it was before you started revamping?

What kind of run are wanting to build onto it?

Even with the work you are having to do to it, it is still a great find IMO!!!

That was another hole that was already cut into it. I was covered with another piece of wood that I took off. The panel is still in good condition, nothing a little paint wont help so I think that I am just going to put a piece of plexiglass over it and make it a window. I am putting the nestboxes on the right side(looking afrom the front) where the other hole is cut.
Still contemplating vents. I was thinking of drilling 2 in holes under the roof line and covering them in hardware cloth, but the strip on the back witha hinged door sounds good too. that is what i have on my other coop.
I am going to fully enclose it, so that i can sleep at night knowing that nothing it trying to get through the wire or even just looking at my girls and contemplating it. One half will be a big clean out door. the other half will have the pop door.
I will probably do the run the same as my other coop. Welded fencing with t posts as that is what i have around the house. I am also goiing to enclose the bottom of the coop so that they can get under there for shade or whatever.
Even with supplies I have already bought I am only at $20.

So I am done for the most part. There are still a few final touches like a window in the big door and the pop door. But my hens came sooner than expected sooo it works for now. I painted the inside egg yolk yellow, it was a mistint can lol kinda fitting.Anything else I can do? Comments? Suggestions? I put up the run today but dont have pictures yet.

You might want to put some type of tin or slant a piece of wood or something on your nest box tops or the rain is going to sit on the top and rot them out. Looks like your are doing a pretty good job

Good idea, I didn't think of that but noticed that when we got rain the other day that it did pool a little bit. I have some extra siding left over froma remodel so I will put that up.
