Free MM chick - Silver Spangled Hamburg?

My little SSH is definitely bold but never seems to get in any more trouble than the rest. The SSH will push to the front whenever treats are to be had even though it is smaller than the other 25 chicks.

ETA: new pics! Here the SSH chick is at 2 weeks old

I went looking through the pictures of my SSH cockerel when he was little, and he was obviously a roo by 3 weeks or so. I had 4 pullets to compare him to, so that did make it easier to distinguish the difference.

But I found a picture of his comb at 4 weeks. The pullets' had very flat, unnoticeable combs still when they were 20 weeks old. So if yours is a pullet, her comb will stay very flat for a long time. If it starts growing quickly, you'll know.

Here's the comb on my SSH cockerel at 4 weeks old:

i am so glad to see this thread! I have 19 SSH so no question what they are but I was starting to feel lonely, I rarely see anything about them! I'm excited too that soon I'll be able to tell how many pullets or roosters I have. Mine will be 2 weeks old in 2 days, so in another week or so I'll know. Whew!

I LOVE SSH, so I really hope my free rare is an SSH. Yours looks exactly like ours, Firedove so I am very sure it's an SSH. (lol ours I mean) hopefully we can keep him.

I have 1 SSH pullet, 3 wks old. She gets prettier by the day. Will her eggs be significantly smaller than my australorps eggs?

I would

to get some Hamburgs!

Henderson’s chart says “less tolerant of close confinement”

I would love to get some but, they would be in tractor or run!

Anybody here that have them do you keep them in a run?
If so how do they do?

Joanne
