Free Range & baby chicks

It is so fun. My mama is doing the same. So funny 2 watch them copy her every move. They r 8 days old and already flying pretty well. She is bringing them to a dog kennel we set up 4 nights already pretty cold here. Suppose to b a little warmer tonight so thinking of letting them try a first night out in coop....a little nervous about them getting to cold.

They should be fine with the hen.

Mine are a week old now and I have them loose in a barn stall, they walk around with mom in there or catch a ride on her back, at night she goes in a dog kennel with them and I lock her up, it's really cute!!!!!

I can't wait to let mine out to play! They just had their Mareks vaccine so I need to give them time to develop their antibodies before I let mine out. I know I'm probably being over protective but I worry about Mareks. By Thanksgiving mine will be ready to go outside and play.

I have now let them stay out at night. Still locking in kennel at night. They r all doing great. I have 1 that is a bit smaller but seems to b doing great. They r getting more and more tame with each day, eating from my hands now.

My big fat mama is hatching them out, so exciting first my little banty henny.
Fat mama had 23 eggs, so far we have 9 babies. This one will b a bit harder for she is cranky and has not taken to us, the way henny has. Henny eats right from our hands when we give her treats. Crossing fingers they all survive.

for what is this vaccine and how do you apply it, if I understand correctly it is for chicks that hatched under a broody hen

It's for all chicks, not just broody hatched chicks. To prevent Marek's disease, it is injected and must be done as day olds. Becomes less effective with each passing day.
