Free Range chickens and eggs

[FL Chicken]

These chickens are free range only. They get plenty of feed from animal stalls and leftover cattle feed.

How often will a chicken lay without layer feed? I was getting about 1 egg per day from each chicken (on layer feed). Now I am getting maybe 1 egg every 4 days per chicken (off layer feed). Is this what I can expect without feeding the layer?

The leftover feed your chickens are scrounging may not be providing them with the nutrients they need for egg production (calcium, for example).

FL, ya gotta take into consideration the time of year when layers naturally slow down. Not only do you have normal moulting and stress, you have less daylight and you say you have changed their feed, which can also hinder laying. I believe you may not get many eggs until spring, but sometimes they pick up in late winter. I know FL weather shouldn`t affect laying all that much, but temps don`t seem to have much to do with it. Just my 2 cents......Pop
