My guineas finally came out of their coop without me for their first time and one was immediately killed by a hawk....My dog found 5 of the terrified hens in hiding, I'm hoping by dusk the others emerge from the woods. I thought with so much brush, trees and hiding spots they'd be okay.

This isn't a good sign for my remaining hens is it? Will they get smarter?

Your guineas are still pretty young.
Reading your prior posts, they still have alot of growing to do.
The 11 remaining guineas learned a valuable lesson when one was lost to a hawk.
Your flock of guineas have no adults to mentor them and show them the ropes. Yours will learn as they go.
Free ranging will always result in losses.
