Does a free range hen have to be mated every time she lays an egg to have fertilized eggs or does the rooster only need to "visit" once for the whole batch of eggs to be fertile. Im an egg guy and some one asked me and i said id have to post the question to the experts. the reason for the question is if the hen is free range then could the chicks have different dads which could explain the variations of color and such.
