free range hens

quick inquiry -

for a few months, there has been a flock of free range hens and a rooster that visit my garden everyday.

yesterday, as i was playing with my daughter, we ran past our butterfly garden. we startled a hen, who flew out of the bushes and then we saw 7 eggs!

is this normal? and will they return to the same spot? or was that a one time thing?

i checked today and there were no eggs in that spot.

They probably would return but it sounds like some sort of predator got the eggs. Since there were so many eggs, either the hen was broody (trying to hatch eggs) or that was just a favorite spot to lay. Good luck!
