Free range or enclosed run?

I was wondering your opinions on letting your chickens be free ranged or keeping them in an enclosed run.

I’ve heard that free ranged keeps them quieter because they have more to do but also that an enclosed run makes them quieter because they feel safer. Is one better than the other?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Mine free range, as for the predators well they don't bother my animals thanks to my great pyrenees. I have two and I haven't lost any chickens while free ranging thanks to them. I also live on 20 acres my chickens stay fairly close to the coop and put them selves up. I still count them when I put them up that's how I can say I haven't lost any. But if your considering free ranging I highly encourage getting a live stock guardian.
