Free Range Peafowl Flying

Im new to peafowl....dont have mine yet. trying to learn more.

this may be a silly question....but here it goes...

is it okay to clip wings to keep them from flying.... my new neighbors would lose it if there was a peahen in their garden.

just big 'ol pheasants that are way too expensive to shoot

Hmm somewhere I have a photo of an adult white male jumping into the tree that they all sleep in. Its a little dark (cuz it was bedtime) but its cool seeing him jump 20 feet straight up

I also have a photo of 13 peas in that tree on christmas eve last year... I'll look for thos pics.

The camera is a Kodak DX7590.... its about 5 years old .... it was my first digital camera, and Im still just so happy with it. It wasnt overly expensive and although there are better ones out there .... this one is workin for me great

Yes that camera sure is working great for you. One trick to taking pics when there is wire between you and subject: put camera right against the wire.

Cool christmas card!

Peachick- great photos.

It is always neat to see peafowl roosting up in the trees. When I was a kid- we went to a farm that had peafowl, and I was amazed at all of them up in a big oak tree.

So far, I think my flock has stayed home. There was one Black Shouldered Silver Pied male that was a little ways down the road and then he was out in one of the pastures when I was checking cattle. So I caught him and am keeping him penned for a while.

You can just see the top of the barn, in the trees, this is where he is suppose to be.

That is a great picture.. I love the look of that country setting.

Just shoo them back home, no need to pen up again, usually. Many of the Blues at my child hood home would wander really far- far like that too but they always came back home.. there were several that would go out on a long distance walk and never were seen again though.. could be predators or people caught to keep for themselves(there was a lady down a ways that "suddenly" had blues in her pen.. same time a few of mine never came home again.. hmmm.......)

Cool Randy.
Here is my wondering peacock story

(should prolly be a separate thread)

Last month a friend of mine called me. He said... do ya want another peacock?? there is one hanging around my barn for 2 days. I said.... I'm missing one, I wonder if hes mine??

Sure enough he was my pied male that was getting dominated by my oldest male. I had not seen him hanging around in about 3-4 days.

The interesting part is that if ya drew a straight line on the map he was exactly 4 miles away, he had to travel over roads, creeks, fences, woods, and several farms to get to my friends house.

And the MOST interesting part is that my friend is the man that gave me my very first peacock eggs

he eventually gave me all his birds 2 years ago... and has no other animals. This pied male wasn't one of his, so it amazes me he ended up there .

It's surprizing how far they will go. Lucky that he ended up at your friends.

We had a Pied male go to our neighbor's about a mile away. They locked him up to keep him, and then bought 3 hens, when they let them out the next spring- the hens came here. I think it was a good trade!
