I have four chickens; approx 2 years old: They have never been the greatest egg layers by any means but I could usually count on 2-3 eggs a day.

It used to be we cooped them during the winter months and let them free range during Spring and Summer. However, they have been tearing up my flower beds, wandering off to the neighbors yards and pooping all over my deck, which ticks my husband off. It was with all these things in consideration that I decided to coop them from this point on, and ever since, the egg production is pathetic, to the point where I wonder if its worth the cost in food to keep them. They have a nice big coop with a big run outdoors, so I dont feel they are cramped or stressed in that regard. They have been on the same food their entire life, and so its not from a change in diet....

My question is, has anyone else ever went from free range to coop, and if so was their a certain amount of time that the chickens rebelled before getting back to a regular laying routine or are they going to be mad at me forever!?
