I saw my cat jump 4 feet in the air after a rooster. I was able to diffuse the situation. Roosters can be mean and they can do damage but against a strong predator its unlikely they will win. Years back we had chickens that were literally pecking our rooster to death. (Same rooster the cat went after). This rooster also kept trying to attack my daughter. We ended up giving him away.

I’m not trying to scare you, just giving examples.

We had a dog back then that would go after the chickens. He pulled his feathers out. The chickens just kept pecking at it. The dog was re-homed but he just couldn’t help himself. He killed a few woodchucks too, and they’re big.

Where is Oakland hills? I’ve been to CA but I live in TN. I assume you have coyotes but they come out at night? Big birds will be your primary concern.
The Oakland hills are in the Bay Area, about a 20 to 45 minute drive (depending on traffic) from San Francisco. I live right next to a canyon, so yes, we have coyotes. We also see many big birds, which like you said is our biggest concern. There are turkey vultures and crows, but we are mostly worried about the hawks. What is TN like? Is it similar?

What breed is this??? I have been doing reasearch and it’s gotten me nowhere. I am hoping you guys know. Her tail and neck remind me of a wyandotte. thank you!
