Picking up the poop would get you the "cleanest" result. Hosing it down, as you've discovered, only makes it nastier by driving moist bits of poop into every nook and cranny.

You can use pdz or similar in your yard but I'm not sure how much it could help. I think it probably works better in dirt in smaller areas. @Rosemary thyme's advice pretty much has it right.

I would NOT use PDZ in the yard....ineffective waste of money.

I’m thinking it’s so clean how can that be but based on other threads, I’m gathering it’s the moisture? Should I use the Diatamaceous Earth on my lawn or will it get clay like?

Yes and NO.

How small is your yard?
I can't imagine that just two birds could poop that much.
