Free range

I have never raised quail, can they free range or will they fly off. I hav 12 acres open fields. Planted in alfalfa, with plenty of brush.

I wouldn't recommend free ranging quail. They aren't like chickens where they return to the coop, quail will have the tendency to wander off, get picked off by predators, get lost in the woods. You might consider a flight pen or aviary style set up. You can build it as long and as large as you like, giving them a ton of room to live and thrive. You can create brush piles as they would have in the wild, put in branches for high places to survey their territory, the possibilities are endless. Quail love to nibble on Alfalfa leaves.
