Well I tried, had my one and only (henny) Buff orp, roo
free range he is 2 months old and now I cant find him and Penny his mate is lost with outhim and wanting to escape from her coop.
I am Still hoping he wonders back.have been looking all this morning and
still sign of him we are surround by acres so i though surely he would know to come back for food.
never had free ranged my flock I believe this will be first and last time..have 4 coops with attached runs and thats where they will stay and these two orps, were little darlings..
so if anyone sees him point him to this direction,

I do hope he comes back to you. This is why I just can't free range. I will try to do the best I can with building a tractor so they can get some fresh grass but I can't bear to lose them.

Think good thoughts!

2 months is a little young. Mine generally stay in the coop by choice until 3 or 4months before they start wandering. Plus I don't move them out there until at least 6weeks and they really should be locked up in their new home for a week or 2 until they understand that it's home. Has he been coming back or is this the first day you let him out? If you don't already have an established flock free ranging it's best to not let them out the first time until evening. That way they don't make it far before dark and are less likely to get confused or try to roost somewhere else. If he's come back before then just wait till evening. A few times now something has spooked my chickens and I always worry they are gone. I've searched everywhere and not found them. About the time the sun starts to set here they are wanting back in their coop.

This is the first one and the first time I let him free range.
I was out at 11 last night with a large search light and try to see if he were there I was calling and calling but nothing.
cant disturb neighbors we are surrounded by acres.
and we have had problems with Racoons..
and ground hogs.in the past. but our cats seem to keep them at bay. and the cats dont pay attention the the chx. maybe
They are used to them being here.they even sit on the top of the coops to seem to be protecting them..and sleep along side of the coop at times.Lucy n Ethel even herded one hen very slowly
toward her pen, dh and i were laughing. at that.. she slipped out so I was able to her get her into her pen.
it was a sight to see.
