Free ranged Egg selling prices

Mine have over an acre (close to 2) of fenced yard to roam and to eat every bug in sight. I consider mine free range as do my customers.. but since I am in the "country" that might make some difference. They have a coop to be locked in at night and nest boxes do I don't have to go on an egg hunt each day. The fence was our front yard fence.. until it became the chicken/predator boundary. Hawks are the only concern at the moment...

Mine have 18 acres to free-range upon. They do have a run, but I keep the door open so they can go in and out to get to the nest boxes. They put themselves to bed at night in the coop, and I let them out every morning. I consider them free range.

I have 6 acres-75% of of my chickens free range from sun up to sun down--I had alot of folks asking me for my "organic eggs" I had to tell them the difference between orgnic and free range-I sell my eggs for 3$ a doz and my MIL sells them for 4$ for chicken 5$ for duck in her "campers corner store" we live near a campsite that is very busy all summer. I would not consider my chickens free range if they were in a run-cage free yes...

I free range my flock everyday & sell my eggs for three bucks. I have a sign out front that says Fresh farm eggs for sale. I don't call them organic I call them natural.

This is the best way to look at it--the wording is misleading at times, so just tell folks about your practices.

My hens free range on the weekend, but M-F they are in a run. My feed is not organic, but a fair portion is locally grown.
We are selling 18 for $2.00. The woman down the road 3 houses sells "brown eggs 1.25 a doz" but I have no idea how they are raised. My husband actually had one guy complain about the eggs "looking wierd" and being too dark!

i feel this statement really discounts numerous concerns people have when buying food. being organic is much more than just organic feed (no meds, no vaccinating etc)....yet its not access to fresh grass and bugs....being free range could be a house full of de-beaked hens and 2 chicken doors to concrete pads. ok pasteurized raised sounds great but what else is going on in the pasture? chemical fertilizers? ........Pasture raised eggs will be lower in saturated fat, higher in omegas etc....birds fed commercial feed will have detectable levels of pesticides and other chemicals in some cases..........My 2 cents is that its not just one slang word thrown around that makes everything ok....The best of all worlds do exist in this case. i just think folks need to bee honest when selling food and informed when buying.

I agree with this 100%. I certainly don't want to discount anyone's concerns, I also simply believe that honesty is the best policy..... it just that all the verbiage out there (and not just with eggs) is confusing to most folks just as it was intended by the companies that began to standardize on them. The price break on eggs at the store seems to follow this verbiage, and common sense should come into play when making a decision. Nobody is going to sell certified organic eggs at 1.50 /doz and be around very long...
My point I guess remains that personal preference dictates your purchase and there are a lot of folks are looking at higher quality - freshness as being the only criteria to consider.
(At least that's the general consensus with those that are buying mine....)

^^^^ so true the label washing of food and other products is somewhat sickening.........I love seeing "natural" on products like produce. really a plant is natural.....astonishing
