Yesterday was a week since I picked up my two RIR hens. I've been wanting to let them out so they can get out and explore my yard and find any good treats on their own. So Saturday I decided to let them out about an hour and a half before dark but I was staying with them so they would be ok. After about 30 minutes I decided to put them back in their pen.

So today I decided when I got home from work I was going to let them out a few hours before dark this time and just let them do what they want. So 5pm came and I let them out. They walked right out and started foraging. They wandered most of the yard for over an hour and just once I needed to redirect them. I became so comfortable that I even went in and out of my house a few times as they walked around. They even walked up to my back door and stood on the step as if asking if they could come in too. lol A little after 6pm they decided they had enough and went back in their pen.

All in all I would say the after work free ranging is going good.
