Hey guys!!
Im a new chick mom and live in town on about an acre of land.. with that being said I am wondering if I can let my chickens free range when I'm at home?? I know it will depend on city ordinances. Basically I'm wondering if my chickens will stay or run away lol. My yard is not fenced in. Also, whenwis it safe for my chicks to fo outside to the coop? Thanks :)

You biggest concern should be the possible predators that can pose danger. Hawks, coyotes , and fox during daytime. Do not overlook neighbors dogs and cats. Most cats will leave adult chickens alone, but not ALL CATS.
First try to see how they free range as you are watching them. Chickens usually should not wander very far from coop. They may wander off into areas that they see as more desirable though.
A fenced in area is definitely a more secure option. A secure run is the ideal, but not always practical for everyones situation/circumstances.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,, and :welcome

I have about an acre fenced backyard, at first they didn't go to far from the coop but now they travel all over the backyard I let them out supervised for a couple of hours twice a day I would like to leave them out all day but we have hawks. Since you do not have a fence they will not run away but might wonder off your property.

And Welcome to BYC
