My free chick last year was a White Crested Polish cockerel. I said I didn't want one this year because I don't want another male or a Polish.

Last year I ordered 30 Buff Orpington pullets and received 31 Buff Orpington pullets! I was thrilled!!!

I love the mystery chicks! I order large quantities of birds, and I often get a few extras. I don't think they are packing peanuts, I think they are just extra "insurance" so when I order 100 birds, a few might not make it from the start, I'll still have 100 birds.

I'm thinking if you want replacements they will send them but add in extra roos to the order to equal 25. I'm not exactly sure though, I guess you would just have to call and ask to know for sure.

Your little chicky does kind of look like a dark brahma! Go on the McMurray website and check out their pictures and videos- they are very helpful

I just recv'd my MM order .. 27 plus the mystery chick.
I think I ID'd my mystery chick tonight, as a Blue Cochin. If you order from MM, use the catalouge to match up the chicks against your order. Thats how I finally figured it out haha

What a nice surprise! The catalog is very helpful, but I like the videos on their website because I can see all angles of the chick.

Im going to have to find the videos - its hard to ID them from the mag photos sometimes. I spent several hours today trying to see the differences between my RIR and and red stars and delawars lol They have similar coloring in the pale light of the red heat lamp! Discovered the Delawares are the lightest, and have white wing tips coming in, the RIR are most rusty and have black in the new little wing tips and the RS are right inbetween the two.
Also discovered they added an extra black star - I ordered 4 and got 5. And the little tiny one died last night. I had my eye on her, she was so little. Poor sweet baby.
Ive lost two out of 28. I guess that is ok? The rest seem healthy and happy. Im concerned about my little polish girl. Her sister was the other who I lost from shipping trampling. She has a very quiet, "loner" personality. I think Im just picking up on her being so reserved, but now Im paranoid. I would be devastated if she died. We are quite attached to her, in only 6 days of having them LOL
