Hi there!

I've been working on a fun project, would like to develop a large-breed mottled chicken in many colors that is a standard size, good egg layer.

Please see my other post here:

I have a small number of fertile 3/4 Exchequer Leghorn, 1/4 Speckled Sussex eggs that I'd be willing to mail out for just the cost of shipping, to anyone who wanted to see this project through for a couple of generations. . . you'd need to have an existing flock (or start one) of a solid-color large breed chicken, like Black Austrolorps, Blue Marans, or whatnot, depending on what color you'd like to try for.

Right now, the eggs I currently have to share would be best for people trying to develop a black and white "checkered" type, heavier in body than the existing Exchequer Leghorns, or a blue and white mottled type, or a brown/black/white "calico" type.

This fall I'm hoping to have eggs that would help someone trying to start a red/white or buff/black/white or buff/white mottled strain. Will be a few months before I get anything helpful there, possibly October, my web site explains why. But something to keep in mind if you'd be interested in that idea down the road.

This is still really, really, really early in development, I'm just getting started on it.

Tell me your ideas on what you'd do with the eggs if I sent them to you, and we can go from there!

Thanks for reading!

Whoo-hoo!

Got a couple of people who have agreed to work with these, one a cross with Blue Rocks, another with Black Austrolorps and Blue Jersey Giants.

That will use up the supply of eggs for the next couple of weeks!

Who else has ideas for standard breed crosses? Or anyone else want to work with an unrelated Black Austrolorp or flock of Blue Rocks to maybe swap and share future stock with those folks?

I can put you on the list . . .

Let me know!
