Hi. Thanks for asking. Pretty sure it was a combination of the cold and the length of the cold. We are looking forward to a little reprieve here this coming week where daytime temps are more than 20. We had a good cold blast last year too and quite a few combs were frozen but we didn't lose any birds. It just seems this year the length of the bitter cold is really contributing. Many days they just don't even want to come out of the coops and we haven't seen many eggs either with 40 chickens. Poor girls just shiver out there and with all the straw and lights, it just doesn't seem to make sense. And the snow likely doesnt help either. The 4 ft high fence can just be walked over easily now. we will have a long thaw for sure!!

Oh! We do for sure!!! I get them bags of grapes and the one 10 year old said today, "I sure hope the birds leave some for me!!" Um...no, they will eat them all. THey love grapes! I really enjoy getting info and seeing what others have done that has worked well. They are such awesome pets!
