Freedom Ranger Issue

This little chick wouldn't be one to keep anyway I'm afraid. She is now about half the size of her hatchmates and doesn't seem to be growing anymore. I will be culling her this upcoming week before she gets worse and can't move at all. She still isn't walking and she has no feathers on her belly because she has been dragging herself around on her belly. Once she starts getting larger I don't think she will be able to move at all poor thing.

Sounds like the best course of action for her... it's hard to admit defeat, but there are times when it just isn't going to work out and I think it's best for the chick (or whatever animal) to give them relief. Knock on wood, I haven't had any leg problems yet with our FR's (5 1/2 weeks now) but we did lose 4 during our heat wave around 4th of July... that was hard going out and finding them just sprawled out dead on the ground. My Red Rangers are doing well. They are 17 weeks now. The pullets are friendly and pretty. The rooster does not like me touching the pullets. LOL!

Oh yes they are all very pretty. I love the variety in their colors. There are so many different ones. So far everyone else is doing well and growing although some are growing faster than others.

My Red Rangers were a success at the fair. One of my pullets took Grand Champion Standard Pullet! I sold the trio to a friend. They are just over 18 weeks. I took a few pictures of them in the pen before I left. I'll post them later.

Congratulations! Yeah they are good looking birds but I think that next year I might be doing heritage roosters only. I am loving the look of my Dorking roosters this year we will see what they look like once they get to processing weight. The Freedom Rangers are due to be processed in another week. I would do them this week but since I am not quite ready for them I will have to wait one more week. Can't wait to see your pictures!!

A pullet got Grand Champion Standard. I didn't figure they'd get anything since they're not a recognized breed but he really liked her.
