Yesterday, I decided to put the four-weekers out in the coop. They spent the entire day inside. Doors and windows were cracked open, the day got up to 90*. They loved the extra space and the straw bedding.

Nights get down to mid-50’s. But everybody piled into one corner and were fine at breakfast time.

This evening, a couple of the braver chicks actually came out of the coop and found their way back in. So, I can quit worrying about how they would learn to go outside w/o adults to teach them. WooHoo!

Freedom!! I got my garage back and spent the day getting a butt-load of dust and dander out of there. The only thing I could think of was, “I can’t believe I thought about keeping these guys in the house for six weeks. Yikes!”

I bet those are happy chicks!! Gotta love that first night did they sleep alright, are any dead, I hope it's not too cold feelings. Good on you getting them transitioned!
They passed the night just fine. Everyone hopped up this morning when I opened the coop door to see what I was doing with food and water containers.

I was more concerned about heat, so I picked this week because my highs are forecast for mid-70’s to low-80’s. While they were in the garage, this last week the lamps were only on at night and were angled to give temps in the low-70’s. Day temps were steady around 75*-ish inside.

I’m pretty pleased with how well they’ve handled the move. Can’t wait to see them figure out how the perches and nest boxes work.

This is about our temps and I’ve been debating moving them outside soon. They’re feathering out so much faster than our last batch! Much more energetic too lol. Glad to hear it’s possible 🤞🏼

My overnight lows are mid-50’s. I go out at sunrise or shortly after to open up and do feed and water chores.

My flock is almost fully fledged. Most of their remaining fluff is on the head and neck with a few patches on chests. Even then, it’s about half fluff and half feathers. I just piled straw a little deeper in one corner of the coop. That’s where they all piled in. I closed one of the two windows half-way in case the winds shift.

Good luck with your flock.
