Freerange cats

Forgot to answer your other question... I trap and SSS all raccoons. I do a great job at keeping them out of my yard. LOL. I know raccoons didn't eat my koi since I caught the cat in the act three separate times!!!

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting it wasn't the cat. Just wondered about other predators causing problems.

how do you protect your koi from raccoons

I made my ponds above ground and 3 foot deep--no shelves in the water for any plants they could climb on. They'd have to jump in and swim to catch a fish so since we did this they don't even try. To keep herons out (we have tons of Great Blue Herons here) I put black netting over 3/4 of the pond surface but it "disappears" when it touches the water. When the heron see the bright colored fish they swoop down to take a closer look. While standing on the pond edging and eyeball the net they leave pretty ticked off as they won't risk getting entangled in the netting. Its pretty cool to see the herons so close but know the fish are safe!

@chickerdoodle
That sounds like it would be effective protection from cats too. I'd love to see a picture!
