We ate our first batch of freezer campers last night. They had all been young mutt roosters (20 weeks), so 3 of them fit in one plastic gallon bag. They looked like naked wild rabbits. I respectfully placed them in the big crock pot, with fancy garlic and shallots, along with only the best veggies from my garden. Later, I tossed in some egg noodles.

I didn't feel guilty until it started to smell good.

And it WAS good.

Even the toddler asked for a second bowl.

I am afraid to go outside: I don't want to drool when "Shanks", my gynourmous 16-week CM cockerel comes up for treats. He's going to be meaty...

LOL..Shanks may get a new name..Dinner!

we ate all of our roosters about six months ago, including one named kingler, who was my little brother's special pet. he referred to it as his baby. he was delicious, but oh, the guilt!

Apparently, my grandmother sent my uncle out to kill a chicken for dinner and the next day grandma noticed the one pet chicken was missing. When asked, uncle told grandma that they had it for dinner as it was the only one he could catch.
