Freezing pumpkins

I'm amazed at how long you can keep a pumpkin on your porch. I live in Florida and couldn't put out real pumpkins for decoration because of the heat. They would be crawling with creepy crawlies and smelling horrible within a week. I certainly will get some for my chickens now. I didn't think they could eat the seeds. My hens are kind of picky about treats......they love biscuits but won't touch cornbread....weird.

I try not to give them too much people food anyway.

The percentages are based on the pumpkin: not on who are what is the consumer.

I believe that's the percentage of daily allotment for a 2000 calorie diet in an human. I guess I'm confused, could you explain it a little more for my understanding?

I would look at the grams or units of measurement instead of the percentages. The %DV is Percent of Daily Value.

"Percent Daily Values (%DV) are for adults or children aged 4 or older, and are based on a 2,000 calorie reference diet. Your daily values may be higher or lower based on your individual needs."

edit: Grams aren't the only kind of measurement lol

Wow! That pile just isn't just "pumpkins", it has other kinds of beautiful squash. I hope you were also able to enjoy some of them. One of my personal favorites is the dark orange pointy top one. You're lucky to have such a bounty of local heirloom goodies.

I've been feeding watermelon (the chicks love it). I'll have to remember to hit up some of local produce stands to see if they have any left overs after Halloween. What a great idea!

Also, for the more economically challenged among us, most people will gladly GIVE you the pumpkins/squash/straw bales they put out on their porches for fall decorations. I filled my little car at least three times last year and supplement fed the goats for half the winter and had fresh bedding for them too.
