We're supposed to be getting wintery mix/freezing rain tomorrow. This is my first winter with chickens and I have 4 of them. They have a draft-free coop with good ventilation, a smaller run space with a roof (adequate square footage for all of them) and then a very large run space covered only with netting. My birds are cold-hardy breeds, but since it's going to be wet/windy and running around 32* F, should I keep them in the covered space?

What about snow? Can they go out in the snow when the time comes?

Thanks!

Leave the choice to them. As long as they have the option to return to the shelter, they will be fine. They will probably go out for a bit, retreat to shelter, go out for a bit...

My grandfather, a cattle man, always said, "they know more about being a cow, than I will ever know...." The same idea applies to chickens.
