French Blue Copper Marans?

Hi BYC community. My friends neighbor who is about 85 years old told me these birds are Blue Ostrolorps and they lay dark chocolate eggs but the look a lot like Blue Copper Marans. I know BO's lay light brown eggs and BCM's lay chocolate eggs. They are pullets about to lay. Their disposition is SUPER friendly and want to be in my lap constantly. Can someone verify what they are and if they are BCM's. Do you know where I could get a rooster to breed them?

One last thing. I paid $80 for the pair because he said they are rare. Was this a good deal?

With the copper in their neck and the feathers on their legs, they sure look like blue copper Marans to me! There is a Marans thread in the Breeding, Genetics and Showing section of the forum, you could post them there. If I were looking for a breeder, my first stop would be the Where Am I? Where Are You? section of the forum, look for your states thread and ask if anyone has any. If that falls through, you might be able to find them from a hatchery, but don't expect them to be show quality and you'll have to meet the hatcheries minimum requirements to place an order.

Don't go for a hachery, they light tan eggs as opposed to the dark they should. Getting a hatchery rooster will lighten egg color and you don't want that.
