Hi all! Our French copper Marans have just passed 2.5 months old. 2 of them have been legitimately crowing for about a week. It just so happens that they are lighter in color, almost gray, which I’ve read could be an indicator of a rooster. However, this morning while the 2 were crowing, the other two chimed in! It wasn’t a full crow, but does this mean all 4 are roosters?

OMG I sooo wish I could reach in and grab one. French Coppers are so gorgeous. Sooo gorgeous. If I were you I'd put them up for sale at a reasonable price, say $1,000 per bird. Gawd they're gorgeous. Did I say your birds are gorgeous... Oops, sorry. I'm supposed to feel bad for you I know. But they're sooooooooooooooooo gor-jussss!!!

Sorry, but they all look pretty uniform in comb and wattle development and are likely boys.

If they are pure FCM, then you should be able to sell them for cash. You don't have location listed, but you could seek advice in the state forum for your location and see where you might be able to unload these boys best in your area. Here is that link:

At the very top of the thread list, you will see "find your state thread" - look there and post accordingly.

For myself, in OH, I found a livestock auction and sold unwanted pullets and cockerels easily. I just googled "livestock auction near me" then checked out the things that popped up, and found one not too far away. We got cash in hand. However, we did not need to stay for the auction (and the auction house assured me that every chicken sold, every auction), since they will mail you a check as long as total profit on your items was above $10. Also, I used temporary cages that could sell with the chickens: cut-down cardboard box+ chicken wire+zip ties and I didn't have to wait to get my cages back. Appeared families bought my chickens, so likely went to backyard flocks. Interestingly, the BA cockerel (9 months old and very handsome/nice conformity to breed standards) received multiple bids.

If I had not found a livestock auction, then my options were:
1. Post on the community board of the feed store.
2. Fb marketplace or CL
3. find a swap nearby by asking at feed store
4. Call County extension office for 4-H and see if any 4-Hers are looking for any chickens for the fair. In my county the deadline for showing at fair is coming up, but hasn't happened yet.
4. drive to friends farm (but no cash from that - it would have just been giving them the chickens, which I didn't want to do unless nothing else worked out).

Good Luck!
