French frogs

dang that just stinks.......

has it been bad windy the last few days?

just wondering if some four legged predator could have got her, and the wind blew the feathers.......
My yard is behind a hill and we don't get very much wind. All the garbage south of us ends up in our yard. No chance the feathers blew away.

Sid, is that one of the original Foley hens? I always have a fear in the back of my mind that someone could come back and take a bird, but I would think they would take more than one...
Yep, my original Foley hen. She is the only one laying age though so it isn't impossible that someone would just take her.

That's what I think, probably too strange a time to grab a chicken. The other possibility is that she got out, wandered the yard, and an owl or hawk grabbed her without laving a feather behind?

I hope she's just winning at hide and seek.

Yes, I think I now have 5 or 6 pullets and 3 or 4 cockerels. I also have 3 eggs in the incubator lineup but I'm not counting those until they hatch. I'm so glad I worked to get some of their offspring on the ground. I hope they grow up to be as beautiful as their mother.
Was it pouring rain there yesterday evening? It was up this way, which would make me think it was a lot less likely that it was a hawk or owl, but could make it more likely that a four legged predator got her as she huddled up in the weather.

Hopefully she shows up. One time, I had a hen get out of the yard and ended up 4-5 houses away in a neighbors back yard. I ended up going and picking her up at about 10 oclock at night when I got home from work. Hopefully she's just on a play date at a neighbors house.

Such a sick feeling. I feel sick with you.

:highfive: Congrats on the eggs! I saw a few dozen posts back that your hubby is doing better? That's great to hear! 4 day weekends are awesome! Good news, I got Eulas chicken saddle finished on Thursday night. The bad news, she went missing yesterday. Nowhere to be found. I setup a temporary pen for her and she was in it for two days. Yesterday, Sunday I saw her out in her little run scratching about at 4 o'clock at 6 o'clock I ran an errand, got back at 8 and she was gone. Not one feather on the ground. Nothing. I have a six foot fence all around my property. Every time I have let the chickens out they always mill about the yard or try to get back in their pens. Why would she wonder off if she got out of her pen? Her original pen was in sight and when she was out two days before she paced the fence trying to get back in. Not this time, gone. I search the neighbors yards on all sides and not a sign of her or her feathers. I should have put her in my garage, but I wanted her to have some air and sunshine. :rant
:hit Wouldn't a predator leave at least a few feathers from an attack? I wish you did too! I'm a little paranoid (not about you of course), but because I sold my hatchery grade SLW last week and I was gone. My wife let the buyer into the backyard and they were just dying over my Foley SLW kept saying how they are the nicest SLW they have ever seen and wanted to work together on a project etc. But she wen't missing from around 4pm to 8pm Sunday. That would be a strange time to grab a chicken so it's probably not that. She could have flown out of her pen, but I don't know why she would leave the yard in that little of time especially with her home pen in view. When I didn't find her in her pen I wasn't even worried, I just thought she would be around our backyard somewhere. I just can't make sense of it.
X4 on feeling sick with you... was gonna ask if your pen was netted, but next post said she coulda flown out... Sid, I'll tell you straight, I hope she turns up but from the time frame and no feathers I don't think she will, I'm very, very sorry... Same thing happened here... ducks were in our yard right in front of our porch just at dusk, not dark... went inside for 5 mins, came back out and 1 duck was gone the others were huddled against the porch terrified... no sounds no feathers... that's an owl... we found the remains a few days later under a tree in the property across from us... owls come out just before dark to scout and hunt... Very sorry and do hope she is just hiding, but it sounds just like what an owl would do... :hit :hugs

Dang those leaky feathers.... He's such a pretty fella otherwise
