French frogs

Milk soaked grain, very fancy :) I do not like white birds (I really hated those CX) but they do sound like a very good choice to try. I would love a run down of costs, just so I can compare to mine.

Fancy indeed. I was just realizing, your winter temps. They have Big ole combs, my roosters is the size of my palm! Still tho, there are lots of dual purpose herritage breeds that need our help, and if I were you I'd look away from the crosses toward a breed specifically designed to be dual purpose.

What did they go for?

No idea... didn't stay for the whole auction... :/

How sick... That completely defeats the ethical reasons we raise our own food...

Exactly how I felt...

Were they still able to stand?

Some, but not well... most of them kinda shuffled, limped, half-crawled...

I see I just wondered if it affected their price, letting them get like that

I might, mostly looking at the crosses just to get a sense of my options. If I find a breed I love I will start to hone in a bit, right now giving Jersey Giants a good chance.
The Comb is definitely a negative, the Barr Rock got a touch of frost bite over winter.

How old are your JG's? I had a couple but got rid of them, not my cup o' tea... takes them 18 months to fully mature...

They are 3 weeks, very small. I know, and 18 months is way to long, my plan is to keep one for a rooster and process the rest as needed (even if not fully grown.) I went with JG mostly because they were one of the more recommended breeds for rooster. Also I am very curious about the taste. I figure I will cook them like Grandma taught me, brine, flour, cook for a couple hours low heat, and see what my family thinks.
