Pics please?  :pop

Pics of her and the chicks? I will soon... right now she is in a carrier sitting tight while the youngest get a bit stronger... she has tons of patience, lol...

Thanks, love!  I am super stoked!!  Only downside is that I'll have to pay for the travel and then get reimbursed.  I have to go to NH for 3 days during my first full week of work (5/23, I start on 5/18) and then Elkhart IN 2 weeks later.  Kinda tricky when we haven't had money coming in.

Oh, ugh... I hope you can make it work... I know how hard that is... :hugs

Benny, your Wheatens are gorgeous!! So jealous of the good tufts... curious... do you get 'winter face' at all in yours?

Good thing you have a good girl.  I've never tried letting a hen go broody because it takes them out of production, and because it's catchy.

Cool that the Leahy is just doing its job!  I love those incubators.  Do the chicks just hop out and down to the bottom?

Yeah, broody is extremely contagious... I lost count at 20 hens trying to brrod right now... :/

But her I let every time... she is super great and is back to laying when the chicks are 3 weeks old... she has them independent at 4 weeks...

No, the eggs are already in the bottom tray... I just pull it out to check every time I open the Leahy, and most times there is a chick hunkered down sitting there, lol...

:hugs all that outa town would be a deal breaker for us, Idk how u travelers do it

So, I neglected the Araucana pen a bit when the Ahole was still in residence so half the hens went broody on staggered eggs... when they started hatching, we found out we had some homicidal broodys... ugh...

I wanted to scrap the eggs and restart, but OH pitched a fit... so he stuck all the 'close to done' eggs in the bottom tray of the Leahy... no water in it, and not really sure what the humidity in it is, but it's pretty dry... for the last week a couple times a day I open it to turn my other eggs and find a chick hatched in that bottom tray... luckily, our really good Am is broody so she has been getting these little buggers as they hatch...

Anyways, Turk, they are pipping, zipping and popping out with absolutely no issues whatsoever... I went with a full out no help, what happens happens attitude and she has a lot of chicks now... not sure exactly how many, but I think around 20...

Take this for what it's worth, but I hope it eases your mind a bit... :)

I know u must get so tired of tell me not to worry :hide

Looking awesome!

Thanks!

I figure with so many eggs, this is the time to test it, they'll hold the humidity high, even in the octo, notourious for its inability to hold high humidity... I was wondering tho, might have to add water when we get nearer to the end of the 48 eggs? Maybe just a spritz upon opening for chick removal?

It's similar to our Ameraucana beard/muffs, but it's a smaller patch of fuzziness under their chins and it grows upwards instead of straight out like the Am's...

I think it's from the Quechua or maybe from Huastec blood? My brain just went pfffftt... lol...
