My Silkie egg production is finally increasing... still have 2 trying to hatch their feet, but got 4 eggs today... woulda been 5, but 1 was broke...

Big Momma is broody. Now that I'm done collecting I'm tempted to let her try. She hissed at me tonight during egg check, and she hasn't broken any for a week now. She figured out she cannot sit on them, she just has to leave them in front of her massive chest.

Problem is I let the kids in with the adults so they'd have more space, so she has no privacy. I guess I could move those three to the brooder room and let them have the floor and outside pen. She won't go outside since she can't fit through the door, it's only 12" wide.

Little Momma moved into the chicken coop with OG and his mother. She was on the deck and thought she saw a bug, so she "flew" down. I guess she forgot she weighs 30 pounds and broke or molted her wing feathers. It sounded like someone dropped a bowling ball. And then she couldn't find what she went after, so she went after a chicken. That was funny. I don't think that neck wound bothers her much.

I gotta get the minnow trap. Think I got another snake and he's a little more subtle.

But I bet now I said something about how well they're laying now they will close up shop again!

I'd suggest giving her a privacy curtain but I already know the havoc the kids would cause with it!

I can just see Little Momma looking around and zeroing in on the poor chicken, lol... ours are sharing the 'mixed lot' pen right now, a few mixed pullets and cockerels I haven't decided what I'm doing with yet... it's actually working out great... the boys were getting a bit big fer their britches and I thought I was gonna have to move the girls... then I watched the turkeys school the randiness right out of them!

I'd suggest giving her a privacy curtain but I already know the havoc the kids would cause with it!

I can just see Little Momma looking around and zeroing in on the poor chicken, lol... ours are sharing the 'mixed lot' pen right now, a few mixed pullets and cockerels I haven't decided what I'm doing with yet... it's actually working out great... the boys were getting a bit big fer their britches and I thought I was gonna have to move the girls... then I watched the turkeys school the randiness right out of them!

It wasn't much of a chase for the chicken, she just flew back up on the deck (about 30"). That poor fat turkey had to waddle all the way around to the ramp on the other side to get back up, and by the time she got there, the hen was in the crowd of 120+ and so she just sat down to catch some sun.

Yeah, mine still move pretty quick... first time the smallest (golden girl) chased that cockerel around at least 3x in the pen, he looked terrified! Think he was super shocked cuz he thought he was top chit, lol...
