Well I like the acreage idea better. My biggest concern with you asking an acquaintance is potential drama down the road. Something always happens, and unless you have relaxed people, drama ensues and then you have a big headache.

X 2. I'd just stay within your zoning regs as long as you live there.

"Keeping birds there" would also include construction of a secure coop and run, which you may or may not be able to take with you when you decide to move. If she was a good friend then maybe, because you'd already know if she was amenable to having chickens on her property.

But like OFW said, the potential for drama is a big warning flag for me.

I like where I'm at. Close enough I can be in the city in a few minutes, and far enough out that I can be in nowhere in just a few minutes, too. 6 hours from the grandkids, airport is 30 minutes away.

I could live farther out, but there are better job opportunities for DH nearer a city.

Don't mind being here . just like being where people aren't sometimes . can't see my neighbors but hear them all the time .

course they hear me too

. and I make more noise than most of them .
