French frogs

Were no wolves when I first moved here from Detroit in 1983...there was lots of deer....Heck there was lots of game period.....this place has gone down hill for a while....I used to be able to go walking in the woods a get a limit of bunnies now I barely see any.
Grouse are up this year though so maybe when deer season is done I'll go pop a few of those.

What happened??? What'd I miss??

We bought this place in '73 & the quail were already getting scarce, but I trained dogs on wild pheasant on the front of the property. Now they're gone, too. No-till farming killed them both off.

There's not much farming up here....some but it's mostly just forest.....predators and mismanagement is the problem here. If there was still a fur market predators wouldn't be such a problem.

Kwhites, I thought no-till farming was better for wildlife, unless pesticides are used to kill off the cover crops?
Birds are seed eaters; pesticides kill the weed seeds. They also cause the eggs to have softer shells. It took the pheasant longer to decline because their systems are larger and took longer to be affected by the poisoned seeds. There are other causes, as well, but I believe no-till to be the primary culprit.
