Hi everyone.

So I've got a question. About 2-3 weeks ago I had a 3 year old hen up and die on me. Didn't think anything of it, as she was an older hen. Today I had a 10 month old hen found dead in the coop.

Not sure what is getting them. I have noticed some looser poop in the coop, but have not noticed any other symptoms. What do I look for both on the chicken that died today and around the coop to try to identify the cause of death?

Did you do a necropsy? Not that I'm an expert or anything, but if you post picture there are people that could help identify organs that look like they might have caused the death.

I'd open her up and see what the internal organs look like.

I didn't do a necropsy. My wife found her head down, kind of wedged between the laying box and the roost. Purple comb and wattles, with a extra full crop (almost hard). So I'm leaning towards somehow the fool thing got stuck there and died of asphyxiation, but I'll do a health review of the flock and be extra careful.

that would seem odd to here about a tornado up your way....

Very odd..... We really live in a fairly natural disaster grew zone....i can only remember that one tornado and it was a long time ago. Snow is just our big thing...... And when your used to it...... It is no big deal.
