French frogs

Hi OFW. How are the Things?

Not bad. June is a lousy month here, it is first cutting of hay, wheat harvest, bean planting, and we are still calving, so DH is out from dawn to dusk and the things have a hard time understanding why daddy is always gone and cranky.
But the birds are all out happily foraging, the garden is growing, and the things spend most of the day outside playing.
Usually busy season starts tapering off about mid July, so I will get my happy cowboy back in a month.

We're good, hot, dry, but hoping for a good monsoon season.

I didn't even plant my garden this year since I'm building up a base, but I may run down to Lowes and pick up a few tomatoes to pop in. It just looks so empty out there.

In a few weeks I go to Denver to babysit my 18 month old granddaughter for a week. WIll have to get used to carseats, sippy cups and finger foods all over again! (LOL) DH will stay home to watch the dogs and chickens. I'm looking forward to it.

Ohhh 18 months is fun. My things have a great relationships with their Grandma, it is great that you get to spend some real time out there with them.

OrganicFarmWife your life sounds similar to ours here in AL. on the farm. DH's work also picks up and he can work anywhere from 12-24 hrs straight depending on how things go or if they have break downs at the mill.
We did a little planting this year. We are testing a new method. Since I cannot bend over Dh built me a raised bed and now we are gardening in kiddie pools with automatic water supply. I planted the squash, tomato plants, eggplant, turnip greens in re-usable grocery bags from Walmart that hold 7 gallons of soil. Then we set the bags in the kiddie pools. The plants jumped up 2' in a week! They love it.
I planted a flat of bare root strawberries in a kiddie pool filled with potting soil and rabbit bedding mulched in. And my plants are huge and sending out runners like crazy.
In the raised be I have cucumbers, lettuce, onions, carrots and a few cantaloupe and a few squash planted. It's just us 2 so we should have plenty, I hope.

June 20th I will go back to Florida to babysit two grandkids a 1 1/2 yr old and a 3 yr old. They are good kids so I will enjoy spending time with them and my family.

The bag and kiddie pool idea looks like it's working great!!

Makes me wish I'd planted already, your plants look so happy.
Thanks. Its not to late. Start some live plants.
