Hello, Our chickens are anywhere from 3-5 years old. We thought they were played out, but recently they picked up again. 3/4 of the egg yolks have an odd coloring. They are a greyish orange, really dull? We are not sure if they are safe to eat, or why they are like that. They never looked like that before. Is it the age of the chickens? Or are they possibly eating something doing that to the yolk. We've caught them eating gross things in the past, but they are free range. Any ideas?

Can you post some pictures? The only color changes I've seen in yolks have been from something eaten, but maybe someone else will have seen it before. If they free range I would look around the area to see if something is blooming or growing that they may be eating. Especially if it's spring where you are, some new plant may have come up that they are really liking.

Thank you for your quick response. I should've taken a picture. I will post pics soon. I went through 4 eggs this morning before I found a good bright orange one. So I have to wait for them to lay again.
