Our first baby chicken just hatched and I’m not sure if it had intestines coming out or what? He was mostly out of the egg but there was a lot of brown liquid coming out. When the chicken got full out there’s what looks like intestines and the brown liquid is coming from that. Any ideas??!!

Could you get a picture of the chick so we can see what you are seeing?

Once we have a picture we will be able to help you more into what you are seeing!

Looks like some unabsorbed yolk and sack. I would keep the chick on it’s own in a box under heat (place half the box under the heat so it can get to a cool area) and it should dry and fall off in a day or two. Don’t fiddle with it or let other chicks near it. Also, I’d only use paper towels in the box as wood chips will stick to the sack.

Was this hatched in a incubator? If it was, put it in a bowl with a paper towel and put it back in the incubator. That's unabsorbed yolk and the chick isn't fully closed. Make sure that you don't mess around with it too much or pull on anything so intestines aren't pulled out.

Try to get a bowl that's high enough that none of the other chicks can get in and so the chick cannot get out.

I had a few chicks that hatched too early and had the same issue, it took about 12 to 24 hours for them to fully absorb it in the bator in a bowl. They're all healthy and running around now.
