awww, so cute!
I am wondering, I have a cochin (she is HUGE) and she is broody....my kids found a mallard egg freshly laid, and they put it under Chuckles, the chicken. I have no intention of getting an icubator...(lol, I am betting I will eat my words one day) but I am wondering if the chicken's temp is correct for the mallard egg?
If it IS, then I will plop a Cayuga under her too, just to see what happens. Or at least what I think is a cayuga based on egg color....could be a mix of a few types...
The mallard egg, I am sad to say, was found on a walk.
I have already chastised my girls about taking it, and told them to leave it alone next time since their smell will probably render it abandoned.
We have 3 mallard males, but no girls so they have their way with the big girls. my DD was "worried when the ducks didn't come back after an hour" and so I launched into the whole "they lay a clutch then sit and they probably didn't want to come back for fear you were a predator who would eat their babies" talk.
Anyway, so that is handled, and won't happen again.
But since it DID happen, there Chuckles sits, trying to hatch Masie's egg. (horten and Dr Seuss reference) and the result we will call a chuck or dickling. LOL.
