Fridge-a-Bator in Service Again...Eggs Moved to Hatcher

All it takes to change the inbreeding is to introduce some new blood once in awhile by hatching eggs from someone else's stock. So many people here have eggs to share for very little $$$, I'm sure you could mix up the genetics a bit.

I can't beleive the BR egg was rocking and rolling when you were moving it...I would've dropped it for sure...

Cynthia... you know what? i just diidnt give it a thought. i have so much going on... id hatch a few eggs.. give eggs to my neighbors.and occasionally get some eggs from a neighbor to hatch. but i kept giving awway the roosters and keeping my King Tut as the ruler of the roost.

so many things just swoosh over my head these days.. its lack of any real interest.. i dont apply myself to much. thats why im amazed that i keep on hatching and turning and turning.. threw out my auto turner. i need to keep an interest going.
i dont know if its age... 61 almost 62 or the brain damaging pain of buring my 29 year old son not very long ago.. the brain cells just collapsed. thanks for replying. jdy

So sorry about your son. I have two sons, one 30 and one 28 myself. Almost all show lines of birds, in particular, have some inbreeding, so it isn't unusual, but after awhile, you may begin to see problems. Then would be a good time to bring in some new blood.

I guess ill have to retire old King Tut.. hes been a cutie. he takes care of his women and doesnt give any trouble. ive had roos that were so abusive to their women and brutal and loud that they left here right fast. is wonderful to have that type of control hehehe
when i found out he was just perfect i just let him have his life and we lived so comfy. i will have to do some hunting i guess. I have 6 chicks of his that are 2 weeks old and 13 more eggs in the incubator.. i will find Tut a home soon. thanks for the info.. and would you mind teling me just what the troubles were? im curious. jdy

You could still keep King Tut with a couple of lady friends and raise up one of his sons as next in line...or do like Specks suggests. Maybe you could rent a roo for the deed?

Sorry to hear about your son...I lost my mother almost 10 years ago and sometimes I find myself reaching for the phone to call her because my DS has done something that I know she'd like to hear about.
