Friendliest chicken breed

I was planning on getting black australorps, mainly because of their size and their dual-purpose. I don't eat meat personally, but if I wind up with a partner who does I would feel better about knowing where my family's food came from than buying meat chock full or hormones and raised cruelly. I've read they are good cold-weather birds.

They are an adaptable breed. I had some of the hatchery Australorps when I first started out. The 2 roosters were mean. Then I got the breeders Australorps that are bigger than the ones from the hatchery, and decided that I like them better, so I sold my hatchery flock.

Buff Orpingtons and good old Isa Browns. Can't keep the Isa's off me when I'm in the coop! I also have Polish, a Salmon Faverolles, Houdans, an Australorp, bantam Pekins and Belgian D'uccles.

I have a BO who is the easiest to handle and friendly. My welsummer is a little timid but comes running for treats. My speckled Sussex is nosy!! She is the most aloof to being handled but has to be involved with everything we are doing l

My Speckled Sussex hens are very interested in everything I do; love them! Some EEs are friendly, some not. They are crossbreeds, so more varied genetics.
Belgian d'Uccles and cochins, and bantam Brahmas, all may be friendly.
Cocks will vary, from fine to awful, depending. Salmon Favorelles tend to be very mellow though.
NO HORMONES are used in chickens in the USA!!! It's been illegal for a long time! Those pathetic fast growing Cornishx birds are the products of genetic development, not hormones. The same is true for turkeys. Mary

I have a few different breeds. I love my black sexlinks and my Columbian barred rocks my silkies are all very docile. My golden laced Wyandotte thinks my hubby is his other half and even comes out to lay on hi. When he's having a nap. I think if your looking to have birds that are super friendly when you are around and more on the pet side. Buy them as chicks handle them and talk to them multiple times a day and hand feed with treats. They will love you for life if you bring them treats. My chicks love worms and my big girls favourite treat is watermelon.
Good luck

My dominique is the friendliest followed up by the faverolles. The dom is overly chummy like a feathery dog and amongst the faverolles the roo is nicer than the hens. My others are EE mixes and a Delaware they are not freindly, they'll eat from hand but that's where it ends.

I have an EE and she is fairly docile but I didn't raise her so not as friendly as I would like. I am not getting a rooster anyways because my neighbour has concerns about noise.
