We plan to add some chickens to our flock. Right now we got 5 leghorns, they come when I got treats, but forget about picking them up! I hope our coop is big enough. I know that the chicks need to be handled a lot and it depends on the individual. What chicken breed do you feel enjoys being picked up, jumps in your lap, and is basically a lap dog? We have leghorns, so we don't require much egg production.

My leghorns and hamburgs are the more fractious of my chickens. The friendly ones are the EE, Brahmas , barred rocks and Cochins. I'd say you can get most of them tame and turned into lap dogs if you work with them. Get that you want and then work with them if they aren't naturally curious and social.

Silkies are the friendliest chickens I have ever had by far. By they are terrible layers, sometimes get picked on, and require a little bit of special care sometimes. SUPER friend and easy to handle though.
