I've always had chicks from day olds and most of them became very friendly because I would handle them from day one. I just got 3 EO's that were born Jan 28, 5 EE's that are 3.5 weeks old and 3 year old Brahmas. Now, I knew the Brahmas weren't super friendly, not aggressive, just won't approach you. But I was hoping the EO's and EE's would be friendly, in fact, that was what I was told was that they were friendly. Now granted, I just picked up everyone on Sunday, so it's only been two days, but will they become more accustomed to me? Or, will they always run from me? What can I do to make them friendlier? Also, how long should I leave them in the coop (the Brahmas are old enough to go out) before letting them outside? I think the EO's will be in for a while longer and the EE's don't even have all of their feathers totally in. Any suggestions?

Treats are your friend. Start handfeeding them treats that they really like. My guess is that soon enough they'll come running to you when they see you. If you just got them they need to adjust to their new surroundings and are likely a bit frightened by all the change.

My brahma's are not very social towards me. They are in the middle of the pecking order, not aggressive and don't like to be touched. They were like that from day 1 when I got them. THe only ones that dislike contact even more are my GLW.

The ones that jump on my lap are my dominiques, and sometimes the welsumers (if they think there is something to be had). The australorps will let you touch them, sparingly but they don't run away like the brahma's or GLW.

Also, I think much has to do with the individual temperament of the chicken.

Thanks, I wondered about the Brahma's-at least I know it's not me. As long as they are not aggressive, I can handle that, and I'll just have to work on the others. Maybe mealworms-I don't even know if they know what treats are. I have taken out broccoli for them and they just kind of looked at me like I had two heads!
