I heard this story on the radio this morning. I hope I wrote it down right so ya'll get the sentiment of sweetness, loyalty and a touch of comedy.
An old man was walking down a long dirt road with his dog.
After a bit of walking the man realized he was dead, he remembered dying and had he been walking with a dog that had long since died.
He looked off in to the distance and saw a glimmering arch on a hill with a road paved with gold leading to it.
He walked on to the golden road and soon came to the arch which had a beautiful pearl gate, off to one side sat a man at a desk.
The old man asked him What is this place? the man at the desk replied Its heaven the old man asked him do you have any water? the man at the desk said Yes, sir. Go right in and well have some brought to you the man looked at his dog and asked can my dog come with me? The man behind the desk said No, we dont allow pets inside.
The old man thanked him and walked away and back onto the dirt road.
He soon came upon an old farm with a broken gate with no fence.
There was a man leaning on the gate, the old man walked up to him and asked him do you have any water? the man at the gate said yes, sir. Theres a pump over there. Have as much as you like the man looked and saw the old time hand pump with a bowl sitting near it.
The old man pumped enough water for himself and his dog.
They drank their fill and the old man walked back over to the gate to thank the man for his hospitality.
The old man asked the man at the gate What is this place? the man replied its heaven, sir The old man was feeling confused so he asked but the folks down the road at the pearly gate said that was heaven the man by the gate said No, sir thats hell. And were sure glad they weed out the people who would leave their best friends behind.
I just thought it was sweet and thought about what animals would meet me on that dirt road.
